Cattle exclusion fencing

Cattle exclusion fencing

When cattle have direct access to waterways, they often overgraze and trample shoreline areas, which destabilizes them (makes them prone to erosion) and increases the amounts of sediments in the stream. They also tend to pollute waters by defecating in the stream, resulting in higher than natural concentrations of nitrogen and harmful bacteria like E. coli. We work with cattle farmers to support the purchase and installation of cattle exclusion fencing and water pumps to ensure livestock still have reliable access to a source of drinking water without having direct access to streams. This protects the farmer’s shoreline area as well as improves water quality for all who live in or downstream of the waters at the farm.
