Giant Hogweed Control

Currently one assignment we at Lake Huron North have been working hard at has been containing a large patch of Giant Hogweed. This patch is the largest confirmed sighting in Sault Ste. Marie and its the second time someone has come in for herbicide spray!

Our focus is ensuring that this patch stays contained. Clearing the spread also allows for rehab of the site for native species. Features of this site happened to be perfect for growth and domination of the site such as being shade heavy, and damp. This caused a mass spread of the plant, which was also worsened by humans walking or using ATV’s in the area.

If you think you’ve spotted giant hogweed you can use this infographic to double check!

Often to untrained eyes, giant hogweed’s closest, and native relative the cow parsnip. Before submitting a sighting of giant hogweed we suggest confirmation of species before submission to avoid confusion between the two.
